To the editor: In his Community Perspective published on Wednesday, Jan. 8, Gov. Mike Dunleavy tells us that Alaska needs more charter schools. Academic performance by Alaska’s charter school students ranks highest in the nation, he says, adding: “The numbers don’t lie.” Great news, huh? Hmmm. Alaska certainly has many intelligent, resourceful residents: parents, teachers and children. Logic suggests that when student-to-teacher ratio is, say, 12 to 1, as in a charter school, students do well.

To the editor: Are other voters as amazed as I am that president-elect Trump has cast aside “unfair elections” in our “failing nation” as a heinous crime to be righted or punished? Amazed as I am to hear not one peep this November about ballot rigging and rampant cheating? Amazed that the issue has vanished with Trump’s win? No more talk of “stop the steal” from his supporters? No more violence? No recounts or lawsuits? No mention of insurrection, only pardons and newly appointed turkeys?

To the editor: My husband and I planned the day carefully on Tuesday. We were eager to watch the presidential debate moderated (with much difficulty) by David Muir and Lindsey Davis of ABC News. We knew that September 10 might be our last chance to compare the two major candidates hoping to lead our nation into the future. Did you see it? What a mess! Mud wrestling rather than a respectful exchange of ideas and policies. It might have been funny if the stakes were not so high.

To the editor: Donald Trump is now a convicted felon. Trump also lost the presidential election in 2020. Joe Biden won fair and square, proven by many recounts. Trump’s claims of “a steal” are lies. But Trump lost the popular vote in 2016 too. Hillary Clinton beat him by nearly 900,000 votes. We forget this because Hillary behaved honorably, accepting our constitution’s mandate which awards victory to the Electoral College winner state by state, as happened for a shocked Trump.
