Experts say what makes this year's algae bloom significant is that it has sickened different animals compared to years past. "It does not look like we are close to seeing the end of this bloom yet," Clarissa Anderson with the Scripps Institution of Oceanography said. Anderson said the algae bloom was first reported in late February. "I actually have a truck out right now that is headed to Coronado to rescue an animal we believe has Domoic Acid toxicity," Jeni Smith with SeaWorld San Diego said.

The family of a woman who was seriously injured in an accident in Mission Beach is speaking out. Last week, Diana Torroledo and her boyfriend, Ali Aghdaei, were on the jetty when they were overtaken by the high surf. Aghdaei shared one of the photos he captured of Torroledo before their walk along the jetty. "We were just taking pictures, recording videos and just chilling, and all of the sudden a big wave came and knocked us out," Aghdaei said.

Whether it was fowl play or a decoy operation, the result was the same Thursday morning when a CHP officer and a group of good Samaritans came together to save a duck and her duckling after they became trapped by traffic on a busy freeway in Mission Valley. An NBC 7 producer was headed to work a little before 9 a.m. when she spotted a CHP patrol car ahead of her on Interstate 8 east near the Hotel Circle exit.
