This year's 67-67 tie in the House has made compromise necessary - no one gets everything they want, but it's helping keep the process focused on common-sense solutions instead of partisan extremes. Last week we passed two major bills on agriculture and legacy and are currently debating the public safety bill.

These shared services are vital to our communities, but funding them has always been complicated and often unfair. I introduced a bill this year to help change that.

One of my bipartisan bills is moving through the Legislature to formally establish statewide standards for green burials—a growing alternative to traditional burial that emphasizes environmental sustainability. The legislation defines green burial as the interment of a body without embalming or with only nontoxic substances, using biodegradable caskets or shrouds, and without concrete vaults or outer burial containers.

Earlier this week, I introduced two bills—HF 827 and HF 1258— in the Education Finance Committee that aim to strengthen small school districts by supporting collaboration, consolidation, and shared services. HF 827 addresses outdated state aid formulas that have failed to keep pace with the real costs of school consolidation. Wrenshall and Carlton, two rural districts in our area, are working to merge to preserve education opportunities and keep schools in their communities.
