    LINCOLN–(KFOR June 19)–The University of Nebraska Board of Regents voted 10-2 Thursday to approve of a 5% tuition increase in the University of Nebraska system for the 2025-26 school year. The increase was approved in order to try and close a budget gap, due to increasing operational costs and little growth in state aid.

    LINCOLN–(KFOR June 19)–Thursday is Juneteenth, which marks the ending of slavery in the United States 160 years ago, June 19, 1865, when the last Black Americans were freed from Galveston Bay in Texas, about two and a half years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. To commemorate the day, the Malone Center in Lincoln will hold a Juneteenth celebration Saturday from noon to 4pm at Woods Park off of 33rd and “J” Street.

    LINCOLN–(KFOR June 18)–Proposed cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP could have a lasting effect on tens of thousands of Nebraskans, along with Nebraska farmers, businesses and the state budget. A budget reconciliation bill narrowly passed along party lines in Congress and is now before the U.S. Senate. Groups like Nebraska Appleseed are urging Senators to vote no on the bill.
