The Huntingdon County Sports Hall of Fame conducted its 27th installation banquet Saturday evening at the Smithfield Fire Company. The five inductees were Chad Brindle, Don Donaldson, Ty Levy, Garrett Scott and Jason Shea. Hall president Keith Black began the celebration by welcoming members and guests. Teresa McConaughy then same the National Anthem Black led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Huntingdon and top-seeded Forest Hills got into an outstanding pitching duel that began Tuesday evening in Altoona and finished early Thursday afternoon at Mount Aloysius College. Juniata Valley’s first-ever appearance in a District Six softball championship game came up just short Thursday afternoon at Central Cambria High School. The Hornets fell behind top-seeded Claysburg 5-0 over the first three innings. Valley mounted a rally in the fifth and sixth innings, but lost a 5-4 decision to the unbeaten Bulldogs. After many years, it has become obvious that baseball can be a strange game that doesn’t follow logic at all. That could have been exemplified by Huntingdon’s District 6-3A semifinal matchup against second-seeded Central Saturday afternoon at Martinsburg. Huntingdon starting pitcher Brock Bryson didn’t have his best stuff that day. Over five innings he walked seven batters. He wasn’t particularly help that the Bearcats were guilty of four errors.

It took a turn through the lineup before the Huntingdon baseball team was able to get its offense on a roll. After that, the Bearcats pulled away and shut out visiting Bellwood 10-0 Monday afternoon. It was the fourth straight win for the Bearcats, now 14-4 for the spring.
