I even bought a second copy to keep in my car. My voice was regularly hoarse from having sung along with ‘Evenflow’ or ‘Jeremy’ sixty seven times in a row. Along with Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Stone Temple Pilots were quickly added to my ‘must-have’ list of music. Obviously, Nirvana blew up like a super nova, but, for whatever reason their sound never really blew me away. There were a couple of tracks I enjoyed but overall I sort of left them laying there.

I’d heard that Van Halen broke up. Some of my friends were upset but I really didn’t care. I didn’t much like Van Halen. I thought David Lee Roth was a coked out crazy man. Too hyper. He got on my nerves. Too glitzy, too cheesy. But then they brought Sammy Hagar into the mix, who’s song “I Can’t Drive 55” was a song I really liked — likely the closest to heavy metal that I’d gotten into at the time. Van Halen released 5150 and my musical tastes did indeed change. I was instantly a fan of the album.
