A pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck near Beryl Junction and seriously injured early Wednesday morning, authorities said. According to a news release issued by Iron County Sheriff’s Cpl. Charles Day, the incident happened at approximately 1:35 a.m., when dispatchers were notified of an auto-pedestrian collision on Beryl Highway. “Preliminary investigation indicates that a Ford F-250 traveling northbound on Beryl Highway struck a middle-aged male who was in the roadway,” the statement said.

Long-ball golfers of varying ages showcased their skills at the 21st annual Utah State Long Drive Championships held at Coral Canyon Golf Course last weekend. A motorcycle rider was seriously injured in a crash on state Route 143 several miles south of Panguitch Lake on Saturday afternoon. Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Luis Silva said the incident, which happened shortly before 1 p.m., occurred near mile marker 26 and involved a blue motorcycle and a white Jeep SUV. “The motorcycle was going westbound when, for an unknown reason, it lost control and crossed into the oncoming lane, where it collided with the left side of the Jeep,” Silva said.

Iron County mother Brittney Orton recently authored and published a children’s book she hopes will help people see things from another person’s perspective. “Through My Eyes,” is a short, simple and heartwarming story about Orton’s 12-year-old daughter Kloe, who has Down syndrome. At the book’s official launch event on May 10 at Main Street Books in Cedar City, Orton signed dozens of copies for family, friends and fans.
