European champions Paris Saint-Germain advanced to the knockout stage of the Club World Cup following their victory over American side Seattle Sounders on Monday. A quirky Khvicha Kvaratskhelia goal in the first half, coupled with a second-half strike by Achraf Hakimi, was enough for the French club to secure victory. They have won Group B and may face former player Lionel Messi, now at Inter Miami, in the last 16.

SEATTLE - From the moment the groups for this expanded Club World Cup were drawn, Group B looked like a daunting assignment for Botafogo and the Seattle Sounders. One was the reigning champion of South America, the other a recent winner of the Concacaf Champions League. The draw handed both teams underdog status, placing them in a quartet with Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid. Hours before their shared tournament kickoff at Lumen Field, both teams were given ample reason for optimism.

SEATTLE - It didn't take long for the Seattle Sounders' Club World Cup challenge to hit trouble, as Brazil's Copa Libertadores champ Botafogo burst into an early lead and narrowly held on to grab all three points in this Group B clash at Lumen Field. Some casual defending cost Seattle in the first half and the Sounders never fully recovered. It's whole campaign may not recover either, with a brutal pair of matchups to come, against Champions League victor Paris St. Germain and Atletico Madrid.

After weeks of discourse about Christian Pulisic's decision not to play for the U.S. men's national team in the upcoming Concacaf Gold Cup, the Milan winger finally addressed his absence. On Thursday morning, Pulisic appeared on CBS's Call It What You Want podcast, a show hosted by ex-USMNT players Tony Meola, Jimmy Conrad and Charlie Davies. "It sucks for me to miss out with the team," Pulisic said. "I want to be a part of the team always.

NEW: With one year left until the World Cup, @PaulTenorio and I took stock of the #USMNT depth chart. A 23-man projection for 2026, plus each of our “plus-three” picks if squads stay at 26. So much uncertainty and thin areas. That’s painfully clear. https://t.co/BkDd4Qlifk

The #USMNT squad for the Gold Cup is set. Sergiño Dest the latest of the longtime core to miss out, unable to play as he continues to recover from his 2024 ACL tear. Alex Freeman and Sebastian Berhalter among the hopefuls building their World Cup cases: https://t.co/O1KXIBrRYe
