Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, the O’Jays, Billy Paul, Lou Rawls and the Stylistics were scoring massive hits on the R&B and dance charts, but were also crossing over into the mainstream, courtesy of producers like Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff and ace arrangers like Thom Bell.
