    Occasionally, I must clean my gun room. It’s a bittersweet endeavor that’s necessary from the growing pile of “stuff” blocking my ability to move freely. The bitter part? I hate doing it. The sweetness comes from recovering the forgotten treasures I find. When you’re a lifelong member of the Handloaders Hoarders (HH), you’re always obtaining supplies from constant scrounging. A lot of loot comes from fellow hoarders when cleaning their gun rooms.

    A common and distasteful theme of growing older is the passing of friends. Live long enough, and the inevitable eventually happens. One such friend to me, and many others, was Mike “Madbo” Hutyra. The nickname “Madbo” was short for The Mad Bohemian, in reference to his proud Czech heritage. To say Madbo was a character would be a gross understatement.

    Last fall I finally got around to buying a Garmen Xero C1 chronograph. The unit’s small size and method of measuring bullet speed via radar is convenient. All you need to do is set the unit up on your shooting bench, punch a few buttons and you are ready to go. There was no need for going downrange, setting up sky screens, unraveling a connector cord or checking bullet trajectory to make sure it went through your sky screens while hitting your target.

    ; . While everyone considers silver and gold precious metals, I have other ideas. For me, good old lead, or Pb #82 as it’s known on the periodic table, is my precious metal of choice.

    Imitation is the highest form of flattery. No truer words have ever been uttered when it comes to sixgunners. Simulation is a model mimicking the operation of an existing system. We imitate the guns, loads and leather of our idols for many reasons, mainly to experience what our mentors discovered firsthand. While walking the same footprints is impossible, trailing alongside their experiences for closer examination is the next best thing.
