Imitation is the highest form of flattery. No truer words have ever been uttered when it comes to sixgunners. Simulation is a model mimicking the operation of an existing system. We imitate the guns, loads and leather of our idols for many reasons, mainly to experience what our mentors discovered firsthand. While walking the same footprints is impossible, trailing alongside their experiences for closer examination is the next best thing.

Pockets were the keepers of the sacred treasures we found as boys. It didn’t matter if we knew what the item was for or what function it served; if it looked interesting, we’d shove it in our pocket for closer examination at home. We’d usually forget about these treasures until our moms found them when going through our pockets while doing laundry.

Between the great world wars and shortly after, Americans, more than at any other time, were entertained by and enjoyed firearms. Back then, guns were considered the basic tools they are, used for protection, hunting and recreation. It was common when having dinner guests or hosting holiday parties, for men to take guests to their gun rooms to show their guns. Warm weather events allowed for recreational shooting in the backyard, if possible.
