A North Bay resident, a student at Cambrian College, took home a bronze medal at this week's Skills Ontario competition. Mason Norman is part of Team Sudbury, which includes Collège Boréal as well as four local school boards. Norman won his medal in the Heavy Equipment Service category. It was the best year ever at Skills Ontario for Team Sudbury - Powered by Manitoulin Transport. Skills Ontario was held this week in Toronto. It is Canada's largest skilled trades competition.

A three-vehicle collision just north of the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Premier Road sent two motorcyclists to the hospital yesterday afternoon and closed the major artery for about six hours while police investigated. Police say the collision took place at 1 p.m. when a 33-year-old female driver of a white SUV left a private driveway and struck an 18-year-old male driver of a motorcycle which caused him to lose consciousness.

Thousands of homes are still without power today after a series of severe thunderstorms rolled through the area yesterday afternoon. The main areas affected are from North Bay to Mattawa and in the Callander-Powassan corridor. "Crews are out in full force restoring power after yesterday’s severe winds caused outages across southwest, central and eastern Ontario," says Hydro One. "We have mobilized crews from unaffected areas of the province to support restoration.

NORTH BAY - It was a roller coaster ride all night long, but in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, Liberal Pauline Rochefort squeezed out a win over Conservative Garry Keller. The unofficial results with one poll remaining gave the East Ferris mayor a 1,153-vote lead and the win. At one point Keller had a thousand-vote lead over Rochefort and appeared headed for victory, but Rochefort rallied as the number of polls left dwindled.
