State legislators met in Casper last week to begin what's known as school finance recalibration. That's the process every five years of reevaluating how Wyoming funds public education. This year, there's an added complication: A recent court ruling says the state's been failing to adequately fund public schools. During the school recalibration committee's first official meeting last week, lawmakers heard testimony from members of the public.

A group in Evansville spent part of last week chalking rainbows, flowers and messages of love on the sidewalk outside their town hall. Their aim was to cover up hateful symbols that had showed up in the same spot the day before. According to the Casper Star-Tribune, a local man covered the sidewalks outside the Evansville Municipal Building with chalk swastikas around the time of the town council’s June 9 meeting. The man, Jeremy Brown, was angry about the town hall displaying pride flags.

A former University of Wyoming dean alleges in a new lawsuit that his removal earlier this year constituted an act of retaliation on the part of UW administration. As dean of the engineering college, Cameron Wright blocked a $500,000 transfer of state funds from his college to the School of Computing at a time when the computing school was helmed by the university president’s romantic partner.

A transgender University of Wyoming (UW) student has been dropped from the federal lawsuit that thrust them into the national spotlight. In 2022, the student, Artemis Langford, was inducted into the UW chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma (KKG). In response, six other members of that chapter sued the national organization seeking the student’s removal. U.S. District Court Judge Alan B. Johnson ruled against them, saying private organizations can induct whomever they want.
