HUNTSVILLE, Arkansas — With the water level low in War Eagle Creek, a crew from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service used a hydraulic hammer to cut a notch in the middle of a concrete dam about a mile and a half east of downtown Huntsville Nov. 1. As chunks of concrete crumbled, water began to gush downstream.

Of all the made-up holidays we celebrate because we simply love celebrating anything, National Golf Month might be the one that is the most unnecessary. For most golfers, no matter how good or bad we are, rain or shine or mind-blowingly hot, we never stop thinking about this sport that is both wonderful and mean, so I’ll just borrow a cliché and state the obvious: every month is National Golf Month. Still, it’s a holiday and you and the golfer in your life deserve to be pampered.

Forget death and taxes—if one thing is certain in this world, it’s that Caribbean resorts will never stop trying to develop the most creative, extravagant pools we’ve ever seen. This is especially true on the island of Providenciales in Turks and Caicos, where Grace Bay Beach is so magnificent and alluring that the resorts that are blessed to have it as a backdrop must come up with concepts that will make guests want to remain on-property. In fairness, they all do it very well.
