    Two Chinese and two Filipinos, who are now in custody, have been charged before the court and the Department of Justice (DOJ) with kidnap for ransom of three foreign nationals in Nasugbu, Batangas last May. The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) identified the two Filipinos as Jomar P. Ubarde and Danilo L. Abilong, who were both hired as bodyguards of the victims and separately surrendered to the bureau last week.

    Thirty-nine Chinese nationals, who were found “illegally working” in a telecommunications company in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig City have been arrested and will be deported, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Monday, June 2. Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony M. Viado said the Chinese nationals were arrested last May 29 by operatives of the bureau’s Intelligence Division (BI-ID) in coordination with the Philippine National Police-Southern Police District (PNP-SPD).

    Thirty-two “high-risk foreigners” have been barred from entering the Philippines since the implementation of the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) this year, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said. “Through APIS, we are able to flag high-risk individuals and stop them from entering the country before they could even disembark,” said BI Commissioner Joel Anthony M. Viado in a statement.

    Two hundred persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City have been transferred to the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro. Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. said the transfer was part of the ongoing decongestion at the NBP. The 200 PDLs arrived at SPPF last May 30, Catapang said.

    A South Korean national wanted in his country for kidnapping has been arrested by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in Pasay City. BI Commissioner Joel Anthony M. Viado identified the fugitive as Jang Seongwoong, 47, who has been in the bureau’s wanted list for deportation since 2021 for being an undesirable alien.
