While Nevada ranked 43rd for friendliness, most West Coast states also landed in the bottom half of the national list. Nevada ranks near the bottom of the list when it comes to tourist friendliness — despite being one of the most visited states in the country. In 2024, 41.7 million visitors traveled to Las Vegas, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

A man was arrested Thursday in the October 2023 stabbing death of a woman found during a welfare check in Sparks, police said. Officers responded to a home on the 1900 block of Boise Drive on Oct. 23 after family members said they hadn’t heard from 40-year-old Yadira Cano in several hours. While police were at the home, her boyfriend arrived and let them inside. Officers found Cano dead from multiple stab wounds.

A Reno man was arrested Wednesday after a 17-month investigation into child exploitation tied to his photography business. Douglas Day, 72, faces 10 counts of possessing child pornography of a person under 16, according to the Regional Human Exploitation and Trafficking (HEAT) unit. Authorities said he operated a business called Top Gun Images. Search warrants were served at two of Day’s residences, where investigators collected evidence.
