This edition of Pipe has felt like both the longestand the shortest ever: Schrödinger’s surf contest. I will watch 10,000 ads. I will watch 10,000 ads for youduring the Lexus Pipe Pro, because well, I’m stupid. Haveyou ever watched the replays on the World Surf League website? There’s an unskippable ad at the beginning of the heat, and yetanother ad in the middle of the heat. If you try to let it run while you cruise to another tab, itwill stop. It knows! It knows you are cheating! No cheatingallowed.

Growing up in São Paulo, Brazil, Leticia Bufoni played soccer with the boys in her neighborhood. Then one day, they all started skateboarding. She was not about to be left behind. “I was the only girl,” she says. “And I just fell in love with it.” So when the 9-year-old Bufoni saw all the boys doing their tricks, she couldn’t stop until she matched them. Holding on to a fence, she tried over and over until she learned a heelflip. “Skateboarding is so hard,” she says.

We recently moved into our beautiful new house in San Clementejust blocks from the beach. Since we moved in, we’ve seen some ofthe most beautiful sunsets from our gorgeous back deck.
