    The November election in Ohio's 6th Congressional District is a matchup of two candidates who just this summer competed for the open seat. Republican Michael Rulli will remain the district's representative, after winning the seat for a second time in less than a year, according to the Associated Press. He has been the district's representative since defeating Democrat Michael Kripchak in the June 2024 special election.

    A special election to fill the open seat in Ohio’s 6th Congressional District is scheduled for June 11. The seat has been vacant since January when former representative Bill Johnson resigned to become the president of Youngstown State University. Democrat Michael Kripchak and Republican Michael Rulli won their parties’ nominations in the March primary when voters chose who they wanted to represent them in both the special and general elections.

    Bowling Green State University is expanding its partnership with the Thompson Foundation to bring $150 million dollars in scholarships to students by 2035. Through the Thompson Working Families Scholarship program, Bob and Ellen Thompson said they intend to give at least $121 million in scholarships to university students, with the possibility of extending the program with $30 million after 2035. This will be the largest single scholarship gift ever given in the state of Ohio according to BGSU.

    A nonprofit dedicated to the beautification of Akron is launching a new initiative to reverse an ongoing concern over the declining number of trees in the city. According to Keep Akron Beautiful, the city’s tree canopy is currently at 34% and is only expected to drop from there. The group predicts 30% coverage by 2040. In order to reverse the decline in the number of trees in Akron, the group is kicking off its Planting Change campaign Saturday at Hardesty Park.

    There are three Republican candidates competing for their party’s nomination in the 13th Congressional District. Whoever wins the primary election March 19 will face incumbent Democrat Emilia Sykes, who is not facing a primary challenge, come the November election. The potential challengers Chris Banweg is a businessman and a 24-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, currently serving as a colonel in the Marine Corps Reserves.
