Concern about the impact of climate change is rising, while fewer people feel individual action is needed to combat the problem, according to a survey in 32 countries on public attitudes to planetary heating. Some 74 percent of around 24,000 people surveyed by market research company Ipsos said they were concerned about the impacts of climate change in their countries. Eighteen out of 27 countries showed increased worry compared to 2022, when Ipsos last asked the question.

Germany has seen its driest February to mid-April months since 1931, according to the country's meteorological service DWD. DWD recorded about 40 litres of rain per square metre across the country – 68 percent less than in the 1991 to 2020 reference period. Germany's northwest was exceptionally dry in the first few months of 2025 and very few regions reached their precipitation targets.

Every second electric car sold in Germany in the first quarter of 2025 was made by Volkswagen, while two out of three newly registered e-vehicles came from German manufacturers, according to a report by newspaper Die Welt. Registration figures by Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) since the beginning of 2025 had shown a clear lead by German brands’ electric cars.

"Overall, German car manufacturers are showing high growth rates in the German market and clearly dominate," Jan Sieper of consultancy EY told the newspaper, attributing German automaker leadership partly to brand loyalty and trust.

Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung French energy company TotalEnergies says it plans to stay on its expansion course in Germany, welcoming the CDU/CSU and SDP coalition deal that will continue to support the expansion of renewables and introduce new "flexible" gas-fired power plants as well as battery storage, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported.
