DUBAI — The UAE pledged $200 million in humanitarian aid to Sudan on Friday, as parties attending a conference in Addis Ababa pressed for a Ramadan ceasefire to halt the ongoing conflict in the country. What happened: The conference in the Ethiopian capital brought together UAE, Ethiopia, the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development and international organizations at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa headquarters in the East African country.

DUBAI — Qatar said on Wednesday it would reopen its embassy in Syria, three days after the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime. The embassy would reopen once "necessary arrangements are completed," Majed al-Ansari, spokesperson for the Qatari Foreign Ministry and an adviser to the prime minister, told the state news agency QNA.

DOHA / ANKARA — Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Sunday urged Syrian opposition groups to unite following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria. “Opposition groups should be united now,” Fidan told reporters on the sidelines of the Doha Forum in Qatar. Amid scrutiny over Turkey’s role in the Islamist-led rebel offensive, Fidan avoided adopting a triumphalist tone as Turkish-backed Syrian rebels celebrated in and around Damascus.

DOHA — Qatar's foreign ministry spokesman said on Sunday there was "renewed interest" in reviving ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas, a month after the Gulf state announced it would no longer be involved in leading the effort. The news came the same day that Syrian rebels announced they had taken control of Damascus, bringing and end to Bashar al-Assad’s 24-year rule. "There is a renewed interest in engaging on both sides.
