New coffee shops continue to pop up around the metro-east, giving coffee fiends (like myself) plenty of options to grab a hot (or cold, if that’s your thing) cup of joe. Or as I prefer to call it, the elixir of life. Fairview Heights in particular has plenty of coffee options, including the more recent additions of Starbucks on Lincoln Trail, Gloria Jean’s Coffees at St. Clair Square and Scooter’s Coffee on North Illinois Street.

1. IntroductionFeline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) is a common retroviral infection of cats worldwide, clinically stereotypified by the territorial, entire, male cat [1,2]. FIV is transmitted horizontally between cats, most commonly through antagonistic biting, with the large canine teeth inoculating the virus from infected cats into the subcutaneous tissue of uninfected cats [3]. Many scenarios exist whereby a veterinarian might want to know the FIV status of a cat.

In a time when immigrants from south of the border are being vilified in the US, a film like Sujo offers a poignant rendering of the brutality which forces some people to flee their homes. From writing-directing team Astrid Rondero and Fernanda Valadez and a female-dominant creative and technical crew, the film won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance and was selected to represent Mexico in this year’s International Oscar category.

BACKGROUND Despite overall declines in risky teen sexual activity, racial and ethnic disparities persist. This study compared abstinence-only and comprehensive teen pregnancy prevention (TPP) programs to explore the effects of the programs on teen sexual activity-related outcomes that may differ by race/ethnicity. METHODS Program evaluation data were collected from 7th-grade students in comprehensive (N = 3244) and abstinence-only (N = 3172) TPP programs.

Services are set for local brewer Corina Mager, 46, who died Sunday after a long illness. Mager’s obituary states that she was a homemaker and homebrewer and that she was employed at Ryan’s Steakhouse. She was a member of the Homebrew Club (The Ferm) in Monroe County. Mager was also a brewer and bartender at Shoehorn Brewing in downtown Belleville. Multiple messages of condolence appeared on Facebook and other online sources as news of her death spread.

DG Market is now open on Belleville’s West Main Street at the old Fischer’s site. The new store is the third DG Market to open in St. Clair County area, following stores in Freeburg and Smithton.
