What a busy and stimulating year it’s been. If the pandemic taught us anything, it’s never to take things for granted and the Ocular Surface Laboratory (OSL) certainly hasn’t been over these last 12 months. The OSL’s research team has thoroughly appreciated having more consistent access to clinics, allowing us to complete studies that were severely delayed by Covid both in start date and recruitment rate and celebrate the subsequent successes of our students.

“Flight NZ29 is ready to board at Gate 4…” I’m in transit in Houston Airport, returning from my first in-person attendance in four years at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology conference (ARVO). As I mentally prepare for the 14.5 hours aboard my waka rererangi, I reflect on what a blast the last week has been – conference attendance was great, the poster halls were buzzing and the science was fabulous.
