Subsea production systems have come far in the more than 60 years since the first deployment in the US Gulf of Mexico, helping many countries unlock their offshore hydrocarbon riches in the years that followed. For Brazil, it was a combination of advances in subsea technologies and floating production, storage, and offloading vessel (FPSO) designs that supported the growth of its offshore oil and gas prowess.

Shell has signed a 20-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) sales and purchase agreement with Ksi Lisims LNG. The LNG developer said in a press release that it would deliver 2 mtpa of LNG from the Ksi Lisims LNG project on a free-on-board basis. This is the first LNG offtake agreement executed by the project. “LNG is a critical pillar of global energy security, and global demand is set to increase in the years to come,” said Steve Hill, executive vice president of Shell Energy.

INPEX received government approval for the revised development plan for its long-delayed Abadi liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in eastern Indonesia. The Japanese energy company submitted the revised plan to Indonesian government authorities on 4 April 2023, incorporating a carbon capture and storage (CCS) component into the existing development plan.

UK-based energy services firm Wood is set to design the platform topsides for Trion, a greenfield development offshore Mexico from Australia’s Woodside Energy. Wood secured the contract from engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) provider HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for the detailed engineering of the topside facilities for the Trion floating production unit (FPU) in Mexican waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Houston-based independent Talos Energy brought two oil and gas discoveries in the US Gulf of Mexico (GOM) on stream earlier than expected. The company announced on 3 January that its Lime Rock and Venice fields, developed as subsea tiebacks to Talos’ own Ram Powell production platform in the GOM, were brought safely online in late December 2023. The fields have achieved an initial combined gross production rate of more than 18,500 BOED, averaging about 45% oil and 55% liquids.
