Canada has enacted new sanctions regulations against Guatemala under the Special Economic Measures Act, effective retroactively on February 16, 2024. The new Special Economic Measures (Guatemala) Regulations (the "Guatemala Regulations"), are intended to "support Canada's ongoing efforts to support the democratically-elected Arévalo government and the people of Guatemala in their fight to strengthen democracy and human rights".

Canada announced an additional round of sanctions under the Special Economic Measures (Russia) Regulations, SOR/2014-58 (the "Russia Regulations") on December 12, 2023, effective retroactively as of December 8, 2023. This new round of sanctions adds 30 Russian nationals to Part 1 of Schedule 1 of the Russia Regulations.

Canada has announced a new round of sanctions under the Special Economic Measures (Moldova) Regulations, SOR/2023-109 (the “Moldova Regulations”) targeting alleged “Russian collaborators”. These new sanctions target nine individuals believed by Canada to be associated with “influential oligarchs”, as well as six television stations that are alleged to “promote and disseminate Russian disinformation”.

On September 15, 2023, Canada released new sanctions under Schedule 1 of the Special Economic Measures (Iran) Regulations (the "Iranian Regulations"). The sanctions target six individuals for what Canada has identified as involvement in activities that constitute gross and systemic human rights violations. Canada states that those targeted are connected to Iran's Supreme Council for Cultural Revolution, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and the Iranian parliament.
