COEUR D’ALENE - A Coeur d’Alene Public Schools trustee resigned Wednesday, after she was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and possessing drug paraphernalia over the weekend. Allison “Allie” Anderton, 44, was elected to the school board in 2021. Her term expires in December. Former Coeur d’Alene Trustee Allie AndertonAnderton was arrested just after 1 a.m.. Sunday in Post Falls.

GENESEE, ID - In 2024, fewer than half of Idaho’s high school graduates went directly to college. Just 43.6% enrolled in college the fall after earning their high school diploma — but that was still an improvement from the two years prior, when it hovered at 42%. Gov. Brad Little’s Idaho Launch program may have helped boost the figure, but the go-on rate still fell short of the State Board of Education’s goal to have 60% of graduates or more go directly on to higher education.

A new bill would give the Legislature direct control over high school graduation requirements. The House Ways and Means Committee — a catchall panel made up largely of GOP and Democratic leadership — quickly introduced the bill during an early morning meeting Friday. Graduation requirements now reside in Idaho Department of Education rules — and the Legislature can approve or reject rule changes.

Hundreds of Republican delegates from across the state will gather in Coeur d’Alene beginning Thursday to elect a party chairperson and vote on the Idaho Republican Party’s platform, rules and resolutions. The Idaho Republican State Convention is scheduled to run Thursday through Sunday at the Coeur d’Alene Resort and North Idaho College.

Caldwell trustees gave the school district’s administration the authority to reduce staff and make other cuts as needed to fix a funding deficit caused by last week’s failed levy.
