LS Electric Co., an electric power equipment maker in South Korea, has launched construction of a 40-megawatt-hour (MWh) long-duration energy storage system (ESS) in Jeju. According to the company on Thursday, it broke ground for the project to build a large-scale ESS on Wednesday on Jeju Island, which is aimed at resolving oversupply of power in the region. About 50 guests attended the groundbreaking ceremony, including residents and officials from the Korea Electric Power Corp.

LS Electric Co., an electric power equipment manufacturer under South Korea’s LS Group, has completed the construction of a production facility in the United States, in response to the Trump administration’s enhanced tariffs on imported power equipment. South Korean cable manufacturer LS Cable & System Ltd. has built a 3,000 kilowatt (kW) solar power system at its submarine cable production base in Donghae, Gangwon Province. The plant began full-scale operations on Monday. The facility is expected to generate 3,600 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity annually, which is equivalent to the annual power consumption of about 1,200 households.
