Floor plans provided by the Hutchinson School District provide a fresh look inside planned renovations to Hutchinson High School. While the plans will look familiar to those who saw an earlier version of the design, the School Board has made updates to the plan to cut unnecessary costs, and to add ideas that were on hold until a fuller financial picture was available. The schematic reflects what Hutchinson High School will look like when renovations are completed around September 2018.

The District 423 School Board spent a few hours Monday afternoon reviewing an audit by Conway, Deuth & Schmiesing before the levy was discussed that evening. “I think you’ve done a good job keeping your fund balance where they’re at,” said Paul Harvego, a partner with the firm, at the regular meeting that evening. “Keep up the good work.”The district’s assets in 2016 total $94.04 million, up from $47.23 million. Total liabilities are $72.96 million, up from $23.91 million last year.

Lawmakers have met in the middle of an issue watched by many Minnesota farmers: ditch mowing. A moratorium on new mowing rules along state highways is in effect until May 2018. Worries started to crop up late last year when the Minnesota Department of Transportation rolled out rules saying, “no mowing shall be done before Aug. 1 or after Aug. 31.” The rule also put in place a March 1 deadline for landowners to apply for a mowing permit for ditches along state roads.
