In the same national meet, the Vandalia-Butler boys 4x400-meter relay finished third, surpassing the Ohio record they set earlier this month when they won the Division I state championship. The quartet of Tayven Crump, Levi Campbell, Brayden Thaxton and Jordan Gross finished in a time of 3 minutes, 10.96 seconds. Samuel Darmanie of Springboro finished second in the boys 2000-meter steeplechase at New Balance nationals in a time of 5:46.07.

Pamela Kosgei of New Mexico won the championship in 31 minutes, 17.82 seconds, followed by Hartman in 31:32.15 — the equivalent of back-to-back 5Ks in 15:46. Hartman’s second-place time was 14 seconds faster than the previous NCAA meet record, set last year by Florida’s Parker Valby. Hartman had a decorated career at Oakwood High School, leading the Jills’ team to a pair of state track championships.

The rest areas on both sides of I-75 in Butler County (just south of exit 29) and Auglaize County (just north of exit 113) will close July 7 for complete replacement and are slated to reopen in summer 2026. ODOT Chief Communications Officer David Rose said the reason all of them will be closed at once is that the state bundled the projects to get the best price from the contractors doing the work. “We’re trying to do the right thing, to save money,” Rose said.

“Our pool and restaurant are getting a fresh new look and will be back soon. Until then, we promise the rest of your stay will still be full of good vibes,” hotel officials posted on their site. The 13-story hotel property, located at 33 E. Fifth St., had been vacant since October 2022. In its previous incarnations as the Stouffer, the Crowne Plaza and briefly a Radisson, the building had a capacity of 287 rooms.
