Our long football nightmare is finally over. The Pittsburgh Steelers have their starting quarterback for 2025 locked up. The team announced they signed QB Aaron Rodgers to a one-year deal on Thursday. But who will be the quarterback after Rodgers turns 42 and his contract is up? Could Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson be a dark-horse candidate to join the Steelers in 2026? That’s the idea analyst Kevin Clark floated on Friday’s episode of NFL Live on ESPN.

When the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted C Zach Frazier in 2024, they hoped that he could be the next in a long line of great Steelers centers. Only time will tell if he’ll ever be mentioned alongside legends like Dermontti Dawson, Mike Webster, and Maurkice Pouncey. However, his rookie season could not have gone any better. Per The 33rd Team, Frazier was the best pass-blocking rookie offensive lineman in the NFL last year. He was on the field for 513 pass-blocking snaps and only allowed 12 pressures.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in as close to a crisis as they can get. They haven’t won a playoff game since 2016. They don’t have a long-term answer at quarterback. And QB Aaron Rodgers still hasn’t signed. That puts head coach Mike Tomlin in a tough spot. He could be looking at Mason Rudolph as his Week 1 starter in 2025. It’s not like there really is anyone else at this very minute. Rudolph is the de facto QB1 for the Steelers. It’s him, Skylar Thompson, and rookie Will Howard.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and general manager Omar Khan vowed to address the wide receiver room this offseason. And it started well, with the Steelers trading for WR DK Metcalf. But then, they traded away WR George Pickens. But finally, it appears that the Steelers are at least looking to bolster their depth chart by bringing in WR Gabe Davis for a free agent visit on Thursday. Obviously, a free agent visit is no guarantee that the Steelers will sign Davis.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in the midst of voluntary OTAs right now with mandatory minicamp on the horizon (and fast approaching). But the Steelers still only have three quarterbacks officially on the roster. Will Aaron Rodgers be the fourth quarterback or not? Former Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has spoken previously about thinking Rodgers should arrive sooner rather than later. Even though Rodgers hasn’t signed yet, Roethlisberger still believes he will. It’s just a matter of when that happens.

I’d say go home NFL Draft, you’re drunk. But the draft is so far beyond drunk, we need to call an ambulance for a hospital visit.
