AbstractIsolation caused by anthropogenic habitat fragmentation can destabilize populations. Populations relying on the inflow of immigrants can face reduced fitness due to inbreeding depression as fewer new individuals arrive. Empirical studies of the demographic consequences of isolation are critical to understand how populations persist through changing conditions.

It is expected that the coming decades will see unprecedented levels of residential building construction, particularly in low- and middle-income (LMI) countries. In fact, LMI countries represent roughly 80% of the world’s current population and 99% of expected population growth over the next 10 years. However, less than 50% of studies measuring residential building life-cycle assessment (LCA) include LMI countries.

But in the modern world, there are many different questions—from ecological and sociocultural to legal and political—surrounding who has the right to fish salmon in these ancient rivers.
