SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – An escaped California inmate accused in the recent death of a Mexican police commander was arrested in Mexico on Thursday, the Baja California State Attorney General’s Office announced. The Baja California State Attorney General’s Office said Cesar Hernandez was located and taken into custody during a State Investigation Agency/National Defense operation on April 17. Hernandez had been on the run since December 2024 after escaping from custody in Kern County.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A wrong-way crash on Interstate 8 in San Diego’s College Area Thursday morning left a woman dead. Just before 3 a.m., the California Highway Patrol received reports of a vehicle traveling westbound on the eastbound I-8 lanes near College Avenue. Moments later, the man driving in the wrong direction slammed into a car driven by a woman. The collision sent the woman’s vehicle off the freeway lanes and down an embankment.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The 2028 Summer Olympics will be held in Los Angeles, but a well-known San Diego County beach will be a part of the Games. The LA28 group announced the Olympic surfing competition will be held at the iconic Trestles Beach in North County. In a press release, LA28 officials said, “Trestles, part of San Onofre State Beach, has long been revered for its consistent, high-quality waves that attract beginners and pro surfers alike.
