SAN FRANCISCO — It turns out the “superpower” didn’t belong to Caitlin Clark. Instead, the Golden State Valkyries were fueled by another full house that upstaged the most famous player in women’s basketball in a big way Thursday night at Chase Center. Brandon Podziemski, who has become something of a mascot for the Warriors’ WNBA affiliate, wore a satisfied smile in a hallway after Valkyries pulled away in the second half for an 88-77 win before a raucous crowd of 18,064.

Here’s a scoop — the Giants can afford it. Even better, vice president of baseball operations Buster Posey is more than willing to spend it. The Giants got a taste of their own medicine Thursday and missed a chance to head into Los Angeles tied for first place. Uncharacteristic wildness by reliever Randy Rodriguez and an error by third baseman Casey Schmitt in the ninth inning helped contribute to a three-run ninth by the Colorado Rockies in an 8-7 win over the Giants at Coors Field. Orlando Arcia lined a single to left to drive in the winning runs. Rodriguez gave up three runs in a 43-pitch ninth inning.
