Earlier last year I was motoring down a remote two-track in the Mojave Desert. To the right, sagebrush blanketed the desert floor, reaching as far as the next mountain range and presenting trails that led to beautiful camping spots. An identical scene played out to my left, but if I turned the wheels onto one of these tracks I would be in violation of federal law. Why, might you ask?
