There are feelings that make you feel all warm and fuzzy and then there’s your toddler reaching out of someone else’s arms to be brought back into yours. Besides the only dog at a Sunday barbecue choosing your feet to lay beside, there is no greater warm-and-fuzzy feeling than being “the chosen one” for the littlest member of your family.

It has been said, “A grandparent is a little bit parent, a little bit teacher and a little bit best friend”. My husband and I are so lucky to have both sets of parents still with us and extremely lucky my in-laws live locally and adore spending time with their first grandchild. I see in their interactions with Lucia that their love for her knows no bounds. Making her smile is their number one priority, and keeping her giggling, laughing, singing, dancing and well-fed is their second.

I have asked my husband multiple times if he’s cool with me rewriting history and telling people that our daughter’s first word was “dog” because I just think that’s so much sweeter (and more unique) than the truth. He, annoyingly, is a stickler for the truth and said I should be stoked her first word was “mama” and “dog” as her third word is still pretty awesome.

One of the most unexpectedly joyful parts of becoming a parent is watching how my circle of friends have not just welcomed my daughter but initiated her as one of the girls… and all before she’s even one. Since moving to Newcastle in 2018, I have been truly blessed to have befriended an incredible group of women and while we may not have grown up together, we continue to grow together each and every day.

One of the greatest gifts having a child has bestowed upon me is a renewed relationship with time. Before having Lucia, as I would get into bed of an evening, I would write out a to-do list for the following day. Sometimes these tasks were monotonous and dull, like drop off clothes to charity bin, put suitcase up in attic that’s been sitting in the spare room for weeks, or move piano and vacuum up dead cockroaches. Sometimes they were more ambitious.

Hey @CurtisStone. Is it a thing to put Glad Wrap in the microwave when reheating? Is it unsafe? Does it evenly distribute the heat?
