There are so many facets to parenting. Some moments are heart-warming, others are challenging. Some elements feel nurturing, others feel like an all-out battle. And, some aspects of parenting are just straight up boring. Researching the best highchair; deconstructing and reassembling drink bottles; watching her place a blankie on her dolly, and take it off, place it on, take it off; lying on the floor of her bedroom in pitch black because she won’t sleep unless your hand is resting on her belly.

Two of my best mates have just had babies – one day apart actually – so there’s been a lot of joy, swapping of birth stories and lasagne-making in the past few weeks. But, there’s also been equal parts reflection – remembering a whole 18 months back to when my daughter was born – and thinking about the future. An Instagram post I saw last night really struck a chord when considering the latter… Be warned if you’ve just had baby yourself, this will feel and sound weird.

It has been said, “A grandparent is a little bit parent, a little bit teacher and a little bit best friend”. My husband and I are so lucky to have both sets of parents still with us and extremely lucky my in-laws live locally and adore spending time with their first grandchild. I see in their interactions with Lucia that their love for her knows no bounds. Making her smile is their number one priority, and keeping her giggling, laughing, singing, dancing and well-fed is their second.

I have asked my husband multiple times if he’s cool with me rewriting history and telling people that our daughter’s first word was “dog” because I just think that’s so much sweeter (and more unique) than the truth. He, annoyingly, is a stickler for the truth and said I should be stoked her first word was “mama” and “dog” as her third word is still pretty awesome.

Hey @CurtisStone. Is it a thing to put Glad Wrap in the microwave when reheating? Is it unsafe? Does it evenly distribute the heat?
