The tentacles of anti-money laundering scandals appear to be extending themselves further and further throughout southern Nevada, with the Fontainebleau Las Vegas said to be the latest focus. It was inadvertently revealed at last week’s Nevada Gaming Commission meeting that the casino is facing an AML probe over credit approvals. Fontainebleau, owned by Jeffrey Soffer and Koch Real Estate Investments, is the newest addition to the Las Vegas Strip.

The New York state Senate voted 54-5 May 27 to approve the rezoning of 50 acres of parkland near Citi Field in Queens, clearing the way for Mets owner Steve Cohen to develop his $8 billion Metropolitan Park proposal. The rezoning was already approved by the state Assembly earlier this year, and it now heads to Gov. Kathy Hochul’s desk for final approval.

April was a month of uncertainty, but Nevada gaming managed to keep pace despite more struggles on the Strip. In a month that was dominated by tariff announcements and economic uncertainty, the Nevada gaming industry generated gross gaming revenue of $1.23 billion in April, according to data from the Nevada Gaming Control Board. The total was flat year-on-year, and the state is now down 1% for the fiscal year to date.

A second environmental public comment hearing for the Caesars Palace Times Square proposal hosted by the New York State Gaming Commission Wednesday was headlined by a notable endorsement of the project. Geoff Ballotti, president and CEO of hospitality giant Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, called in to the hearing to offer praise for the casino proposed at 1515 Broadway. Caesars Entertainment is partnering with SL Green and Roc Nation for the bid, not Wyndham.
