As the unveiling of Apple’s next major iPhone software update draws closer, reports are beginning to gel on which iPhone models we can expect to get access to the latest bells and whistles. While a December report suggested no iPhone would be left behind, it seems that may have been a bit optimistic after a more recent one revealed that Apple may draw the line at its 2019 iPhone models.

While there’s never any doubt that Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) Keynotes will be filled with software announcements each year, it’s always a bit of a wildcard whether the company will also use the opportunity to unveil new hardware products. In some years, the company has wowed us with revolutionary new products, like the Apple Vision Pro in 2023. Other WWDC keynotes have also featured new product categories, such as the first HomePod in 2017.

While most of the buzz around next week’s iOS 19 iOS 26 debut has been around a significant design overhaul, we have to know that Apple has more in store for it than just a fresh coat of paint. iOS 26 is expected to see the biggest changes to its user interface design since iOS 7 when it abandoned skeuomorphism in 2013 in favor of a much flatter design.

Not content to simply force Apple to open up app distribution in the EU, the European Commission is leveraging its new Digital Markets Act to insist that Apple also open up proprietary iPhone hardware and software features. The Commission insists that Apple has an unfair competitive advantage by not allowing Android and other handset makers to participate on a level playing field when it comes to features like AirDrop and AirPlay.

A little over three years ago, Apple scored its first big foray into live sports when it announced Friday Night Baseball. Now, it seems it might be about to take its MLB ambitions to the next level. According to Sports Business Journal, Apple is the frontrunner in a deal to pick up the rights to MLB Sunday nights from ESPN, which is ending its national TV deal after this season.
