Read parts one, two, and four. Across many parts of the U.S., flooding is becoming more frequent and more severe due to climate change. Which means flood maps, which show a community’s flood risk, are becoming more important tools for homeowners, businesses, and government officials.

The devastation from Hurricane Helene continues to unfold across the southeastern U.S. More than 200 lives lost, homes and businesses and critical infrastructure destroyed, tens of thousands still without power, a violent disruption of lives and livelihoods. Response is ongoing; recovery will take years. Helene made landfall along Florida’s western coast, causing immense damage there.

It’s been over a year since the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, a bill with massive investments in climate and clean energy that ReImagine Appalachia, alongside many other partners, fought hard for. IRA has already made waves in the clean energy industry, with more than $270 billion in new private clean energy investments and 170,000 new jobs. The solar industry alone is expected to add a record amount of gigawatts of new capacity in 2023, thanks in part to IRA.
