Barnet Council has announced plans to install up to 1,000 on-street electric vehicle (EV) chargers across the borough, significantly expanding its infrastructure to support residents without access to private driveways. The rollout, delivered in partnership with UK charge point operator char.gy, will see 500 units installed in the first phase over the next three months, with a further 500 due within the next three years. Once complete, Barnet will have a total of 2,500 on-street EV chargers.

Mazda MX-5 owners enjoy the cheapest median insurance premium at £250, according to data released by Go.Compare. Although lower-powered, small and safe cars were typically cheaper to insure, ownership demographics played a role in insurance premiums. The driver’s age, area they live in, and where the car is parked all contribute to insurance renewal costs. The Peugeot 206 was close behind the Mazda MX-5, with a median insurance premium of £255, with the Citroen Xsara’s median premium being £256.

Fuel prices across the UK continued to fall in May, with both petrol and diesel dropping by 2p per litre, marking the third consecutive month of declines and bringing pump prices to their lowest levels in nearly four years, according to RAC Fuel Watch. The average cost of petrol fell from 134p at the start of May to 132.3p by month-end, while diesel dropped from 140.5p to 138.4p.

The Motor Ombudsman has partnered with automotive industry charity Ben to launch Steer, a quick-reference guide aimed at helping businesses across the sector recognise and respond to employee mental health and wellbeing challenges. Unveiled at Automechanika Birmingham on 3rd June, the guide is available in printed form and as a free download from The Motor Ombudsman’s website.
