ANSONIA - A New Haven woman is facing charges in connection with a March 25 "incident" at an Ansonia school that left a 3-year-old injured, according to police. Mary Durso-Smith, 32, is charged with second-degree assault and risk of injury to a minor, Ansonia police said. Police said the incident occurred at Mead Elementary School, and the child sustained an arm injury that required surgery. Police also said the incident was captured on camera and was deemed not accidental.

CHAPLIN - A Windsor Locks woman sustained serious injuries after she was ejected from a motorcycle in a crash on Bates Road Wednesday night, police said. Connecticut State Police said the 44-year-old woman needed to be airlifted to Hartford Hospital after being taken to Windham Hospital by EMS following the crash. Her condition was unclear as of Thursday morning. The crash occurred around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, police said, and involved the single vehicle.

WATERBURY - Police in Waterbury alerted the public of a new scam in which individuals are impersonating city Water Department employees. Complainants have reported that people claiming to be with the Water Department have come to their homes, saying they wanted to collect "lead samples" or install "lead filters" for money, according to police. Police advised residents that Water Department personnel would never show up unannounced and without a scheduled appointment.

By Jessica Bravo NORTH HAVEN - The area of State and Skiff streets is closed to motorists Thursday morning after a crash involving a pedestrian, according to police. It was unclear exactly where the crash occurred, as was the severity of injuries the pedestrian sustained, but police said they were at the scene as of around 8:30 a.m. Police asked motorists to avoid the area as the scene remains active.
