WATERBURY - An 11-year-old bicyclist suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a motorist, according to Waterbury police. The crash occurred at around 7:50 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Old Colony Road, Waterbury police Lt. Ryan Bessette said. The motorist remained at the scene and cooperated with officers, Bessette said. Bessette said the victim "was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment."The investigation remains ongoing, Bessette said.

BRIDGEPORT — Six adults and two children were displaced after a fire erupted at a Sedgewick Street residence Wednesday, an official said. Bridgeport spokesperson Shawnna White said city firefighters responded to reports of a fire that broke out around 9 a.m. in the 50 block of Sedgewick Street. The fire was found in the rear of the building and was extinguished quickly by crews, White said. No injuries were reported, she said.

GLASTONBURY - Two residents of a Margaret Lane house were displaced by a fire that broke out Tuesday night, an official said. Dispatchers received reports of the fire in the 40 block of Margaret Lane around 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, Glastonbury Fire Chief Michael Thurz said. Light smoke was coming from the house's front door when crews arrived, Thurz said, but the fire was found in the rear of the house and quickly put out by crews.

WATERBURY - A Wilby High School student who had an unloaded firearm in their possession was taken into custody Wednesday, according to officials. Waterbury Public Schools Interim Superintendent Darren Schwartz said the high school and North End Middle School were placed in lockdown after a "student reported seeing a possible weapon on the bus."The firearm was confiscated from a student by the school resource officer, Schwartz said.
