VERNON - Two local residents are displaced from their Prospect Street home after a fire erupted late Wednesday evening, according to an official. Fire Chief Steve Eppler said crews began responding to the scene shortly after they received reports of a fire around 7:20 p.m. The flames were heavy when they arrived, Eppler said, and prompted multiple crews from neighboring towns to also assist. Eppler said the scene was cleared around 11 p.m. and the house was deemed inhabitable.

A health alert has been issued after ground beef products at Whole Foods Markets in Connecticut were found to possibly contain E. Coli, according to officials. The Food Safety and Inspection Service with the U.S. Department of Agriculture issued the alert in a release Tuesday and said the beef was no longer on shelves but also had been distributed to locations around the country, including Georgia, Illinois and Maryland.

MIDDLEFIELD - A motorcyclist involved in a Main Street crash near the Middletown line Tuesday evening has been identified, according to police. Connecticut State Police said the motorcyclist, a 54-year-old East Hampton man, suffered serious injuries in the single-vehicle crash around 7:10 p.m. Tuesday. The motorcyclist was traveling north and negotiating a curve when he hit "a wood beam guardrail in the right shoulder," police said.

MARLBOROUGH - A fiery one-car crash left three people with serious injuries Tuesday evening, police said. Connecticut State Police said the crash occurred on Route 2, near Exit 15, around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police said a 17-year-old Hartford resident was behind the wheel driving west when the car went off the road. The Nissan Altima the teen was driving then hit a ledge embankment and overturned several times, police said.

MIDDLETOWN — A Middletown resident veered into another vehicle driving on Interstate 91 south before going down a 250-foot embankment on Monday, according to officials. Connecticut State Police said 18-year-old Evan Aldrich was found at fault in the two-car crash that occurred around 7 p.m. by Exit 20. Article continues below this adAldrich was driving an Audi A5 in the right lane, adjacent to a Toyota Rav4, when he veered into the Toyota's lane and struck it, police said.
