JUPITER, Fla. — A Jupiter bank teller was among those involved in an organized check fraud scheme that involved the theft of thousands of dollars, police said. The Jupiter Police Department said in a Thursday statement that they began investigating the case last September at a TD Bank located at 2301 W. Indiantown Road. During this investigation, police said they determined a group was targeting local businesses by stealing checks out of the mail and altering the checks for self-payment.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday refused to take up a challenge to an agreement that gave the Seminole Tribe exclusive rights to handle online sports betting in Florida, dealing a blow to the deal's opponents. The nation's highest court denied a petition from opponents of the compact, which promises to rake in hundreds of millions of dollars for the tribe and the state.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Finding affordable auto insurance is becoming more difficult for Florida drivers. "It got to the point where I was like panic shopping," driver Mark Fitzpatrick said. "How am I going to pay for this?"The Palm Beach County man took his plight to social media where a Nextdoor thread had more than 100 responses in just a few days. "I was trying to figure out why my car insurance had exploded from $1,300 for six months all the way up to $2,000," Fitzpatrick said.

Struggling Red Lobster is abruptly closing at least 48 of its restaurants around the country, according to a leading restaurant liquidator. TAGeX Brands is conducting an online auction of Red Lobster restaurant inventory, including kitchen equipment, furniture, tables and chairs. The auction begins Monday and continues through Thursday, according to company founder Neal Sherman.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation has leveled a $1 million fine on Heritage Insurance, citing several failures to policyholders in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. In a consent order, OIR listed nine instances, including failure to pay or deny a claim within 90 days after notice of an initial claim.
