Cybernews reports that TikTok and its parent firm ByteDance have been accused by U.S. Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar of gathering exorbitant amounts of data from its 170 million American users, which could be misused for espionage and extortion during a Friday hearing before the Supreme Court. "There is evidence ByteDance has taken action to misuse data at the PRC's request outside of China," said Prelogar.
U.S. Treasury Hacked by Chinese Group

The U.S. Treasury was hacked by a state-sponsored Chinese group in which a BeyondTrust API key was hacked. The result? A compromise of Treasury workstations and the theft of classified documents.The news comes via a report by SCMedia. In a letter to a Senate committee, a Treasury official said that on December 8 Beyond Trust notified the Treasury that the threat actor used the stolen key to access the department's systems.

Mastercard has completed its acquisition of Recorded Future, a threat intelligence company. Mastercard bought the company from Insight Partners for $2.65 billion. The deal expands the credit card company's portfolio of cybersecurity services, adding AI analytics in addition to threat intelligence. Insight had taken a controlling interest in Recorded Future in an all-cash transaction of more than $780 million in 2019.
