A central New York community is grappling with the devastating consequences of hazing. Onondaga County District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick said 11 members of the Westhill High School men’s lacrosse team were involved in what he called “hazing on steroids,” in which they allegedly led at least one team member into the woods, tied him up, and came out of the woods dressed in black with what appeared to be a gun and knife.

At a Mass in Syracuse Monday, Bishop Douglas Lucia of the Syracuse Catholic Diocese asked for prayer in the wake of Pope Francis’ death. “We mourn the passing of our beloved Holy Father, and we just ask the Lord now to be good to him. He was very good to us,” Lucia said. Lucia said he found out about the pope’s death Monday morning, and immediately knew it would be a “different kind of day.”"We knew he was frail. This weekend may be a good time for gardening, but experts say it pays to be strategic about how you plant. Cornell University horticulture expert Professor Marvin Pritts said it has been an almost perfect winter and spring for gardeners. It has been cold enough to keep the plants dormant, but not too cold. "Some years we get a warm-up in say February for five or six or seven days, then it gets cold again. That's really damaging the plants because the water starts to move into the plants,” he said.

New census data is showing positive trends for the population of New York state. Leslie Reynolds, a research support specialist with Cornell’s Program on Applied Demographics, describes the new census data as puzzle pieces, painting a picture with information like births, deaths, and net migration. "You can kind of see all of this at once and pick apart what's driving different areas, what things maybe to focus on, and that could be of interest to policy makers and researchers," Reynolds said.

SUNY Oswego is taking on a new challenge and is planning to spread some knowledge along the way, as the school hosts its inaugural TEDx event. TEDx talks first caught the attention of the event organizer Eason Lee when he was just 15 years old, growing up in Malaysia. "This is the biggest stage in the world for spreading ideas," Lee said. Lee decided to make it one of his goals to host his own TEDx event. Now, as an MBA student and graduate assistant at SUNY Oswego, his dream is coming true.
