The London Marathon has received more than 1.1 million applications for the 2026 race, breaking the world record of 840,318 set in last year‘s public ballot. A total of 1,133,813 people across the globe applied for a place in next year’s race on April 26. Nearly 870,000 people in the UK applied, split almost equally between men and women. Around 264,000 people from overseas entered the international ballot.

The Denver Colfax Marathon, presented by Cigna Healthcare, is proud to announce their 2025 race season sponsor line up ahead of its spring race weekend in the Mile High. Denver’s only marathon weekend will take place May 16 – 18th, 2025. The race is scheduled for May 3 in Larkspur, Colorado at the Greenland Open Space Park in southern Douglas County, south of Castle Rock, just off I-25. The Greenland Trail 50K has been awarded the Road Runners Club of America Western Region Championship. More details can be found online at www.greenland50k.com. Sprint-distance swimming races and mixed-gender events in artistic gymnastics and golf are among the additions to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, after the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) approval of a record 351 medal events. The LA28 schedule includes the Olympic debuts of the 50m backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly for both men and women, and a mixed 4x100m relay on the track.

Boston is a marathon like no other. The course is deceptively difficult and more like multiple races combined into one. For elite runners, this is not a get-in-the-zone and chase-the-clock kind of race. It takes some thinking, strategizing, and specific training to win on Patriots’ Day. I became obsessed with the Boston Marathon back in 2008 and wanted to run my way into the history books. In 2009, I placed third, the highest finish I would ever have in Boston.
