AbstractIndustrial-scale ethylene production occurs primarily by fossil-powered steam cracking of ethane—a high-temperature, high-energy process. An alternative, photochemical, pathway powered by sunlight and operating under ambient conditions could potentially mitigate some of the associated greenhouse gas emissions. Here we report the photocatalytic dehydrogenation of ethane to ethylene and hydrogen using LaMn1−xCuxO3.

Views expressed in opinion columns are the author’s own. We imagine little fantasies for ourselves every day. Whether it’s illusions of grandeur, a tiny daydream about a cute classmate asking you out or gaslighting yourself into thinking you did well on an exam so you can get through the rest of the day, we wouldn’t be human without our imagination. That’s why fantasy is a universal element of the human condition.

Views expressed in opinion columns are the author’s own. College Park is not a nice place to live. We’ve got, constant construction and bumpy roads with questionable drivers. The place looks generally run-down and police seem ineffective at catching suspects — at least, based on the campus phone alerts — but somehow rent remains high. But you can’t say College Park doesn’t have character.

Views expressed in opinion columns are the author’s own. President Pines and I both think that connection fosters Terrapin pride. Which is a shame, because just as football fans that drift out of the stadium halfway through games should be more connected to our football team, this university’s students could be more connected to insights from other fields. I’m not saying we don’t already have lots of interdisciplinary learning opportunities.

The government’s announcement of a higher education review is a start. For it to be a success, the student voice needs to be heard, writes Victoria University of Wellington Students Association president Jessica Ye.A month ago, the government announced an extra $128 million for universities and a higher education review in response to tertiary sector-wide protest against mass staff redundancies and a broken funding model.

Views expressed in opinion columns are the author’s own. Everyone is way too worried about race-based affirmative action becoming illegal. I understand why we’re afraid the Supreme Court just condemned us to monolithic colleges and workplaces, or that equal opportunity and meritocracy are dying. But if anything, this ruling gives colleges the opportunity to create diversity on campuses in more meaningful ways.

Views expressed in opinion columns are the author’s own. We already know what tomorrow’s NATO conference’s highly charged controversy will be — Ukraine’s desire to join. Victory or the destruction of an entire culture and way of life could well depend on the support that NATO membership would bring. Although members shouldn’t need to consider Russia’s opposition, this will be a concern. Before the war started last year, Russia used the possibility of NATO expansion as an excuse to invade Ukraine.

Views expressed in opinion columns are the author’s own. Greg Heffley, narrator of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, has become the most relatable member of the University of Maryland’s pantheon of statues. If our most popular deity, Testudo, represents the scholastic mastery we beg for during finals, Greg represents the daily grind. His sleep deprived eyes, slumped shoulders weighed down by his too-heavy backpack and his bewildered expression are reflections of the unglamorous parts of the student experience.

Views expressed in opinion columns are the author’s own. I just found out Evan Lambert, the journalist arrested at a press conference on the Norfolk Southern train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, is a University of Maryland alum. It’s cool to see where alumni pop up, but I’m upset his arrest turned into something of a spectacle. While the charges were dropped with the support of Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, this incident reeks of preformative optics.
