SUMMERSVILLE, WV (WVNS) — Summersville Lake will be the first State Park added in West Virginia in over 30 years. Governor Jim Justice recently announced that Summersville Lake will be West Virginia’s 36th State Park. The bill that will officially designate Summersville Lake as a new State Park was sent to the WV Legislature, and once it is passed by the Legislature and is then signed by Gov. Jim Justice there will be new recreational activities available to the public.

CHARLESTON, WV (WVNS) — Applications are now open for West Virginia American Water’s fifth annual bottle filling program. According to WV American Water, approximately 50 million plastic bottles are thrown away every day in the United States, and they wish to change that by providing bottle filling stations in public locations within their service area that will allow the public to access safe water to refill reusable bottles.

On June 30, 2023, the Supreme Court concluded that the Secretary of the Department of Education lacks the statutory authority under the Higher Education Relief Opportunities for Students Act to implement a program forgiving certain federal student loans. On June 23, 2023, the Supreme Court held in Coinbase v. Bielski that district court proceedings must be stayed pending resolution of an interlocutory appeal of the denial of a motion to compel arbitration under Section 16(a) of the Federal Arbitration Act (FAA). The decision allows parties seeking to compel arbitration the ability to halt proceedings pending such an appeal, rather than expending litigation resources simultaneously in the trial court and the appellate court.
