With Stewart-Haas Racing at the end of the season, I’ve been reminiscing and reflecting on the team we’ve built and the work we’ve been able to do. While it’s incredibly bittersweet, I’m also incredibly grateful — and more than that, extremely proud of the team. While I traditionally don’t write much about my work and the team’s work, I think closing out our time at SHR with a reflection or two over the next couple of months is fitting.

While many have helped to shape the Maxwell School’s first 100 years, perhaps no one person embodies the spirit, mission and purpose of the school as thoroughly as beloved alumnus and professor Michael O. Sawyer. Sawyer spent almost his entire educational career at Maxwell—as student, faculty member and administrator—earning three degrees and retiring in 1990 after 42 years on the faculty. A torchbearer across generations, Sawyer studied with esteemed faculty like Marguerite J. Fisher, Spencer D.
