A woman charged with possession for sale or supply of over €40,000 worth of cannabis hidden in the abandoned church of a cemetery, has been given four years in prison, with the sentence suspended in its entirety for seven years. “Ahh, for f**k sake, Brian!” were the words shouted at Garda Brian Carroll when he caught Deborah Doyle (36), of 5 Congress Terrace, Longford, redhanded collecting drugs from an abandoned church at Moydow graveyard in December 2020.

An energy healer in the Midlands, who was found guilty at Longford Circuit Court of sexually assaulting one of his clients, and “continues to victim-blame” despite the guilty verdict, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison. David Reilly (50), with a current address of Midlands Prison, Portlaoise, Co Laois, was found guilty of one count of sexual assault and one count of offensive conduct of a sexual nature following a lengthy jury trial in July.

A judge refused bail to a man who engaged in an alleged incident of “absolute lawlessness”, which resulted in the stabbing of a man, who required hospitalisation as a result. David Joyce (28), of 35 Palace Crescent, Ardnacassa, Longford, appeared on Friday before Judge Bernadette Owens at Mullingar District Court, charged with violent disorder and production of an article, namely a shovel and a red-handled screener.

A MAN charged with committing an alleged arson attack, which resulted in the closure of 13 Longford businesses, affecting 60 jobs and causing in excess of €3m worth of structural damage, has been remanded in custody. Guo Zhong Chen, 55, of 9 Belvedere Terrace, Mullingar, Co Westmeath, appeared before a special sitting of Longford District Court this evening, where Gardaí made “strenuous” objections to bail under O'Callaghan Rules and Section 2 of the Bail Act.
