Downhill, cold wind whipping around my neck and cheeks and the mighty Eau Rouge (or Raidillon, depending on how pedantic you’re feeling) climbing steeply just out of sight. Suddenly we jerk left and right and the sickening feeling of a pendulum that isn’t going to stop takes over. We’re into a proper tank-slapper now, the driver meekly calls out ‘oh no’ in a hopeless lament and the car whips left again.

Objectivity is a very difficult thing. We all bring certain learnings, preconceptions, and preferences to anything we see, hear, touch, and experience. It's human nature. And the Cadillac Celestiq stirs up a multitude of emotional responses that make it hard to pass impartial judgment.

My E46 BMW M3 CS memory is different to the dozens of amazing moments from various evo Car of the Year weeks down the years. All alone, in the height of the midday sun, driving to pick up some lunch in Castellane, nestled in a fold of rocks on the Route Napoléon. The CS had already finished second in our ‘real world’ preliminary round, just behind the extraordinary Clio Trophy, thus qualifying it to face the big boys: Ford GT, F430, Gallardo SE and others from Aston, Porsche and Mercedes.

Homer Simpson sits in the grandstand at a baseball game, eyes wide and unblinking. He’s on day 14 of a 30-day commitment not to let a sip of Duff beer pass his lips. Earlier in ‘Duffless’ (season 4, episode 16) Homer and his friend Barney had toured the Duff factory and, unsurprisingly, the tragi-comic drunk is in a bit of a state. Homer volunteers to drive his friend home and receives a DUI from Chief Wiggum. Marge is furious and insists Homer stay sober for a month.

I think it’s now safe to say that manual gearboxes are back. The new car market is catching up with what the used market has known for years. Simply put, manuals are more fun than paddleshift ’boxes. You might even say that the manual gearbox is absolutely central to all the very greatest driving experiences. If you want a car that enthrals and involves, it just has to have a stick and a clutch pedal. Undeniably, there’s something magical about a great manual ’box.

Proper old school track and lightweight non-hybridised supercar is a pretty good combo. Also, is this thing still on? I used to really like this place.

Bored of videos showing people drag racing and kicking trucks thinking it’s the best thing ever? How about @JethroBovingdon destroying some Pirellis as he reviews a @McLarenAuto 750S instead? https://t.co/A36O2ddWGI 📸 @DeanSmithphoto 📽️@samgriley https://t.co/HvVKrnboPQ

It’s 2023, right? And the ICE ban comes in 2035 in UK and Europe and California? Assuming it’s not put back further. And nobody has really proven the market for EV sportscars? Just checking.

If you ever wondered why 911s are so hard to look past… Just went to Tesco with my 15, 13 and 11 yr olds, packed five bags into the front and drove home in quiet comfort. Pretty impressive supercar attributes! Also makes you wonder why GT3 T isn’t available with rear seats. https://t.co/uBPd5L56vS
