1 Introduction Proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) has the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) as the key electrochemical reaction at the cathode side. Three objectives when developing new electrocatalysts either for ORR or other electrochemical reactions must be well optimized: enhancing the catalytic activity, reducing the cost of the catalyst, and increasing its lifetime.
