Good morning,Can you believe it’s already April? February and March were busy months—a move, an international trip, finding our footing in a new neighborhood, and taking on more freelance work. In this season, I gifted myself my first-ever secretary desk, a beautiful teak piece that’s nearly 60 years old and now lives in the center of our home. I love having my work centered but not visible, since secretary desks allow you to fold the workspace closed when not in use.

Hard to believe it has been 1 year since I started writing about writing and perhaps more importantly, since I moved writing from the margins of my life to the center. Standing in the hospital room with L.’s partner, parents, and doctor: Who was I, exactly?

Good evening,Today we have our monthly writer’s note, November edition. For those new here, once a month I try to reflect on my processes as a writer, worker or caregiver. Some favorites from the archive are on designing a sabbatical, structuring research as a writer, identifying what season you are in, and investing in practice.

Today’s prompt is inspired by a conversation with @sullivanpaul @companyofdads and Neha Ruch @MotherUntitled -- I keep coming back to it as an illustrative example of the power of changing language. https://t.co/VUw6uL57L3 https://t.co/Ou1nLJBWpI
