A Black woman who sued Atlanta Public Schools after she learned her daughter’s elementary school separated students by race has reached a $500,000 settlement with the district that was approved by its board on Monday, AJC.com reported. In 2020, Kila Posey, a career school teacher and administrator, was running an after-school program called The Club at several Atlanta elementary schools, including Mary Lin Elementary, where her daughter was about to start second grade.

Two Black Seattle police officers are suing the city of Seattle, alleging they were harassed and discriminated against for years in a hostile work environment the city fostered and perpetuated. In two separate civil lawsuits filed on April 16 in King County Superior Court, Officers Michael Griffin and Corey Foy say they faced racial discrimination on a daily basis, including numerous incidents that embarrassed and humiliated them.

A Black worker with the Connecticut Department of Transportation has settled a lawsuit with the state that accused four DOT supervisors of using racial slurs and denying him opportunities for training and promotion. Tyquon Williams first sued the DOT in state court in 2022, alleging that he and other Black employees at the agency’s Milford garage were subjected to racial harassment and denied opportunities to advance.

The city manager of Mesquite, Nevada, a small town north of Las Vegas, was fired by the city council after being caught on tape making racist remarks secretly recorded by the former police chief he fired in January. City Manager Edward “Owen” Dickie had been in political hot water since early April when comments he made in private conversations with former Mesquite police chief MaQuade Chesley and others surfaced in the Nevada Current.
